The Yellowjacket family is getting a bit bigger … sort of.
Reports have confirmed that Hilary Swank, the two-time Academy Award-winning actor, has joined the cast in a recurring guest role for the series' forthcoming third season.
The series, which premiered on Showtime in 2021, alternates between two timelines: one that follows a group of teenagers in 1995 who are involved in a plane crash and a second in 2021 that chronicles the consequences of those events in their adult lives.
Swank, who earned Oscars in 2000 and 2005 for her performance in Boys Don't Cry and Million Dollar Baby, respectively, has transitioned to television as of late with roles in Netflix's "BoJack Horseman" and ABC's recently canceled "Alaska Daily."
Regarding the 2001 timeline, Yellowjackets stars Melanie Lynsey, Christina Ricci, Tawny Cypress, Lauren Ambrose, and Simone Kessler. Original star Juliette Lewis departed the series after the events of the show's critically acclaimed second season.
Read into that, whatever you may.
As previously reported, Joel McHale has also joined the series in a guest starring role. Much like Swank, there are few details about his involvement or how he will fit into the series' framework.
As a result of corporate restructuring, Yellowjackets, which initially premiered on Showtime, will air its third season in 2025 on Paramount + With Showtime.
We'll all figure out what exactly that means next year.
