It’s Christopher Reeve, it’s Henry Cavill, no — it’s David Corenswet! DC is once again rebooting one of its most iconic superheroes, this time with James Gunn at the helm.
In a recently released teaser, we not only get to see Corenswet don the blue suit and red cape, we get a few moments with a much lesser known Superman companion, his dog Krypto! In the clip, Superman is badly injured, crash landing in a snow-covered expanse that can only be his Fortress of Solitude in the Arctic Circle. Gasping for breath, a loud whistle summons his trusty hound to his side, although the white and fuzzy dog certainly isn’t gentle with his owner, jumping on him with super strength and struggling to grasp that Superman needs his assistance.
It’s a tinge of humor that feels very Gunn, who made a name for himself in superhero movies with The Guardians of the Galaxy films. It’s a clear turn away from DC’s previous attempts, particularly the overly-serious and dark films helmed by Henry Cavill.
Written and directed by Gunn, Superman also stars Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. See the clip below and see it in theaters July 11.
