Magnolia Home Entertainment has officially acquired the home entertainment rights to the popular Stephen Kijak directed documentary We Are X. The film, a truly inspiring rock ’n’ roll tale that tells the story of X Japan, is being theatrically distributed by Drafthouse Films. The deal gives Magnolia the rights to both physical and digital distribution.
X Japan has sold over 30 million singles and albums combined. A true force within the world of rock ’n’ roll, their story is one of the greatest that American audiences have never heard. Led by Yoskiki, a composer, classically trained pianist, drummer/percussionist and all around creative force, the band helped to reenergize a generation, creating a movement with their spectacle-driven style (often referred to as Visual Kei) that created a cultural phenomenon.
A dark and intimate portrayal, Kijak digs deep into the demons that often haunted the band as they dealt with the world around them. The film celebrates their music but gives audiences an authentic depiction of their journey; one that didn’t come without its sacrifices as the band worked to entertain and enthrall some of the world’s most devoted fans.
We Are X is continuing to expand into select cities across the country. It is set to hit digital platforms on February 21, 2017 before dropping on Blu-Ray and DVD March 7, 2017.
