Academy Award nominee and athleisure empress Kate Hudson has joined Mindy Kaling's new Netflix comedy. The show, which does not yet have a title, will star Hudson as Isla Gordon, who's thrust into the family business after her brother resigns. The family business just so happens to be one of the most lauded and valuable basketball teams in the U.S.
If that sounds a little bit like the life of Jeannie Buss, current president and owner of the L.A. Lakers, that's intentional. She's one of the show's executive producers, along with Hudson. Kaling's also an executive producer, and brought along some of her Mindy Project pals, including Ike Barinholtz and David Stassen. The latter will serve as showrunner, with Warner Bros. Television producing.
Take a look at the official logline below:
When a scandal forces her brother to resign, Isla Gordon is appointed President of the Los Angeles Waves, one of the most storied professional basketball franchises, and her family business. Ambitious and often overlooked, Isla will have to prove to her skeptical brothers, the board, and the larger sports community that she was the right choice for the job, especially in the unpredictable, male-dominated world of sports.
