John Stamos dropped a huge bombshell last night on Jimmy Kimmel when he proclaimed that the long in-discussion revival of one of America's most beloved sitcoms was a go thanks to a 13-episode order from Netflix.
The sequel series, titled Fuller House (for reasons that you woudn't quite expect), will debut in 2016 with a one-hour special that is effectively a reunion as the cast of the beloved 1987 show reunite.
The show is set to center around Candace Cameron-Bure's DJ Tanner-Fuller (hence the title), a pregnant, recently widowed veternarian living in San Francisco with her two boys, DJ and Max. DJ's younger Stephanie (Sweetin) and lifelong BFF (and fellow single mother) Kimmy Gibbler (Barber) - along with Gibbler's teenage daughter Ramona - move in to help care for DJ's unexpected family work load.
Original stars Candace Cameron-Bure, Jodie Sweetin and Andrea Barber are all set to start in the new series, while Stamos is attached to produce and fill a guest-starring role over the course of the season. Negotations are still ongoing with other regular castmembers Bob Saget, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Dave Coulier and Lori Loughlin regarding possible guest appearences in the show - and let's hope that Netflix flexes some muscles and gets them all on board.
"The continued support of Full House fans of all ages for the last 28 years has been astounding," executive producers Robert L. Boyett, Thomas L. Miller and Jeff Franklin said in a statement. "It is an honor and a thrill to catch up with these beloved characters and explore their lives today."
The original series had an impressive eight year run from 1987-1995, all of which encompassed an incredible 192 episiodes as it became a staple of American television. It seems only right that we catch up with the group and see just whatever happened to predictability. Regretfully I dobut we'll learn much about the milkman, the paperboy or evening TV).
Though no exact release date has been annouced (and no concrete information as to whether the show will be released in a bingeable format or adopt the weekly release schedule that Netflix is experimenting with on Between), but one thing is certain...you can expect the entire Full House series to be available on the streaming site within the next couple of months.
