Focus Features and Carnival Films announced today that the start of principle photography is due to begin on the Downton Abbey movie. While the entire original cast has already been confirmed to return, a handful of new faces will grace the Crawley family at their Edwardian English country home.
Imelda Staunton, Geraldine James, Simon Jones, David Haig, Tuppence Middleton, Kate Phillips, and Stephen Campbell Moore will all star in yet to be announced roles, joining original cast members as they continue the story of the Crawley family.
The television series Downton Abbey ran for six seasons, garnering an unprecedented 69 Emmy nominations, the most of any non-US television show, on its way to 15 wins. It also took home 3 Golden Globes and a special BAFTA award.
A Carnival Films production, Downton Abbey will be released by Focus Features. No release date has been announced for the Michael Engler directed film. Let’s just hope that those of us stateside don’t have to wait for months as we did with the television show.
