Move over Sherlock. Marvel star Don Cheadle has joined Peacock’s limited drama series, Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist. Cheadle will play series regular J.D. Hudson, one of Atlanta’s first Black detectives. The true crime series will portray the infamous story of the armed robbery that took place the same night of Muhammad Ali’s historic 1970 comeback fight.
At the same time that Ali was defeating Jerry Quarry, after he was banned from boxing for refusing the draft, hundreds of guests attending an after-party were robbed at gunpoint, becoming one of the largest armed robberies nationwide.
Besides Cheadle, the series will feature Kevin Hart, Tara P. Henson, Samuel L. Jackson, and Terrence Howard. The show is created and written by Shaye Ogbonna (Penguin, The Chi) and is based on acclaimed true crime podcast “Fight Night” by Doghouse Pictures, LLC and iHeartPodcasts. Chris Brewer (Dolomite Is My Name) will executive produce the series and direct the first two episodes.
