Before Coco arrives in theaters this Thanksgiving, Disney-Pixar is giving us a sneak peek at the soundtrack. Oscar-winning composer Michael Giacchino (Ratatouille, Inside Out, Lost) has composed the score, while Oscar winners Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez (Frozen) also feature on the soundtrack.
Coco tells the story of 12-year-old Miguel, an aspiring musician who hopes to follow in his idol’s famous footsteps despite his family’s ban on music. In creating the sounds of Coco, Giacchino looked to traditional Mexican sounds and music, including instruments like a guitarron, folkloric harp, charchetas, marimba, trumpets and violins. They invited top Mexican musicians from many genres - banda, mariachi, marimba and son jarocho - to come in and record music for the soundtrack.
The “Coco” soundtrack will be available from Walt Disney Records on November 10 and features a wide array of original songs and original scores. Coco arrives in theaters on November 22.
