Corey Hawkins & Mia Goth Join Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey”

The rich, as they often say, continue to get richer.  Or, in this case, Academy Award-winning director Christopher Nolan continues to pile on talent to stack his new project.

In a pair of announcements, Universal confirmed that Corey Hawkins and Mia Goth have joined The Odyssey, Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of the epic poem from Homer.  Though the announcement gave no details as to their respective roles, the pair enter an already loaded cast that includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Himesh Patel, Elliot Page, Bill Irwin, Samantha Morton, Jesse Garcia, Benny Safdie, Will Run Lee, Jon Bernthal, and John Leguizamo.

The Odyssey tells the tale of Greek hero Odysseus as he embarks on a globe-trotting journey to return home after the Trojan War.  Written by the ancient Greek poet over 2,500 years ago, it is one of the oldest stories still enjoyed by contemporary readers.

Universal will distribute the film, with Nolan using brand new IMAX film technology to capture the mythic action epic.  It will mark the first time Homer’s classic screens in IMAX.

Production begins next month with a July 17, 2026 release date planned.  As has become customary, Nolan will write and direct the feature, sharing producing duties with his wife, Emma Thomas, under their Syncopy banner.

Hawkins, most recently seen starring in Malcolm Washington’s directorial debut, Netflix’s The Piano Lesson, has past credits that include The Color Purple, The Tragedy of Macbeth, In the Heights, BlackKklansman, and Straight Outta Compton.     His upcoming slate includes Amazon MGM’s Crime 101, Poker Face Season 2, and the Hulu thriller The Man in My Basement.

Goth, known for her work in the horror genre, has had roles in A Cure for Wellness, Luca Guadagnino’s Suspiria remake, Infinity Pool, and Ti West’s X trilogy, which includes MaXXXine, Pearl, and the original X.

About Stephen Davis

I owe this hobby/career to the one and only Stephanie Peterman who, while interning at Fox, told me that I had too many opinions and irrelevant information to keep it all bottled up inside. I survived my first rated R film, Alive, at the ripe age of 8, it took me months to grasp the fact that Julia Roberts actually died at the end of Steel Magnolias, and I might be the only person alive who actually enjoyed Sorority Row…for its comedic value of course. While my friends can drink you under the table, I can outwatch you when it comes iconic, yet horrid 80s films like Adventures in Babysitting and Troop Beverly Hills. I have no shame when it comes to what I like, and if you have a problem with that, then we’ll settle it on the racquetball court. I see too many movies to actually win any film trivia contest, so don’t waste your first pick on me. My friends rent movies from my bookcase shelves, and one day I do plan to start charging. I long to live in LA, where my movie obsession will actually help me fit in, but for now I am content with my home in Austin. I prefer indies to blockbusters, Longhorns to Sooners and Halloween to Friday the 13th. I miss the classics, as well as John Ritter, and I hope to one day sit down and interview the amazing Kate Winslet.
