The new Star Trek film series has (mostly) satisfied lifelong Trekkies as it ushers in the next generation of fans. Part of this appeal is the pitch perfect casting, chemistry and storytelling of the first two films, and part of it is pure spectacle. They have their faults, but these faults were largely outweighed by the pulse-pounding, breathtaking action orchestrated by J.J. Abrams. Now, Abrams is gone and Fast and Furious helmer Justin Lin is in the driver’s seat, but, I’m confident that the good times will keep rollin’—and so is IMAX.
Lin’s Star Trek Beyond opens nationwide on July 29, but fans can enjoy the new Trek trilogy with a marathon IMAX screening that will begin at 4:30pm on July 20. For the price of a single Marathon ticket, Kirk and Spock lovers in Atlanta, Dallas, Vancouver and a dozen other North American cities will get the chance to watch the two Abrams flicks before they go Beyond with the third installment.
