New Life Emerges in “If Beale Street Could Talk” Clip

Soon to hit theaters, we get a new clip from the much-anticipated film If Beale Street Could Talk. Directed by Moonlight’s Barry Jenkins, and collecting praise on the festival circuit, the film follows Tish (KiKi Layne) and Fonny (Stephan James) as they fall in love in early-1970s Harlem, but must overcome unseen challenges when Fonny is arrested for a crime he didn’t commit.

In the clip, we see Tish trying to break the news of her pregnancy, assisted by her mother (Regina King). Tish, clearly nervous, sits speechless as her mother toasts to the new life growing inside her daughter. The scene is quiet and simple yet powerful, a tone reminiscent of Moonlight.
