Blumhouse, the leading brand for low-budget horror, has a new franchise to unravel as they announce that Black Christmas will terrify audiences this holiday season.
The film, which is a reimagining of the 1974 slasher hit, will reunite director Sophia Takal with the powerhouse producer. The two collaborated on the Suki Waterhouse and Carly Chalkin starrer New Year, New You, the January film in the highly publicized Hulu anthology series.
The film’s main story arc centers around a group of sorority sisters at the fictitious Hawthorne College who find themselves prey to a serial killer over the otherwise quiet holiday period. But this group is different than those of the past as they ban together to fight, refusing to surrender themselves as the helpless victims that cinema history would ask of them.
A true gift that keeps giving, the original film was reimagined via a 2006 namesake remake. This will mark yet another revisit to the age-old property, though in the hands of Blumhouse we would be crazy not to expect a high return.
Starring Imogen Poots, Aleyse Shannon, Brittany O’Grady, Lily Donoghue, and Caleb Eberhardt, Black Christmas will slash its way into theaters on the truly appropriate December 13.
