I’ll admit it: Bridge to Terabithia had me reaching for the Kleenex. Not in a Field of Dreams way, mind you—it was more like a Steel Magnolias, Terms of Endearment kind of sadness. So, when I heard that another Katherine Paterson book was being brought to the big screen, I prepared myself for another movie night of defensively yelling “I’m not crying!” to a room full of jerks (i.e. my friends).
The Great Gilly Hopkins doesn’t look quite as tragic as Terabithia, but the first trailer will definitely tug at your heartstrings. Unless, of course, you’re a robot who has been silently mocking me this whole time, to which I say “How dare you?” and also “I’m totally kidding, I definitely don’t cry during movies!”
Gilly Hopkins (Sophie Nélisse) is a troubled foster kid who has bounced from one home to the next her entire life, but her latest assignment with Mamie Trotter (Kathy Bates) may finally give her the family she’s always wanted.
