Ever wonder what an alien invasion movie with Wesley Snipes and Breaking Bad’s Walter Jr. would look like? If so, I’m glad I’ve found someone that finally understands me. If not, don’t worry—The Recall is here to introduce you to dreams you never knew you had.
The upcoming sci-fi flick is part of a recently announced six-film production deal from Minds Eye Entertainment, Bridgegate Pictures and VMI Worldwide. It may seem relatively low profile for now, but The Recall represents the kind of pioneering filmmaking that may be the norm one day. Director Mauro Borrelli—a former Tim Burton collaborator—will shoot the film for the new, three-screen Barco Escape format, and some of the movie will be shot in virtual reality.
Borrelli forayed into directing after a long and successful career as an illustrator on franchises like Pirates of the Caribbean and Captain America, and he’s got an exciting cast with which to create some eye-popping magic: the aforementioned Snipes and RJ Mitte are joined by newcomers Jedidiah Goodacre, Niko Pepaj, Laura Maria Bilgeri and Hannah Rose. This band of youngsters travels to a remote lake house for a fun, debauchery-filled weekend, when all of a sudden a pesky alien invasion gets in the way of their good time.
Sounds awesome, but even if it didn't, they had me at “Wesley Snipes and virtual reality.”
The Recall has no set release date, but here’s a first look courtesy of the film’s poster. Stay tuned for more details.
