The moment we’ve collectively been waiting for since childhood is almost here: Roald Dahl’s The BFG hits the big screen this Friday.
While third grade me may be the unquestionable #1 Dahl fan, I’m confident that droves of fans will flock to their local multiplex to see recent Oscar-winner Mark Rylance once again team up with Spielberg for some movie magic. Rylance has received early raves for his portrayal of the eponymous giant, and he is joined on screen by Rebecca Hall, Jemaine Clement, Bill Hader and newcomer Ruby Barnhill.
It’s not the first adaptation of this classic story, but Spielberg’s ingenuity and the film’s stunning visual effects will likely separate this version from the 1989 animated film. In fact, as the feature reveals, this is something of a passion project for the veteran director. On top of that, it’s the first time he’s paired with Disney—a match made in movie heaven.
