Well, it’s official. Apple is in the television business and is coming for your Emmys, Netflix. Its first foray into serialized drama is the star-studded The Morning Show and we finally have our first look at the highly anticipated show.
Combining Newsroom vibes with real-life TV show headlines, The Morning Show follows a morning television show’s post-scandal drama as it struggles to stay relevant in an ever-changing climate and stars Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston, and Steve Carrell.
The trailer gives us an exciting peek at what a show starring two television legends and one bonafide movie star could bring to Apple’s exclusive streaming service. While clearly a drama, all three leads are well-versed in blurring the line between comedy and tragedy, giving the show a dark, comedic undertone as Witherspoon’s up-and-coming journalist joins the show as Aniston’s cohost following the scandal-laden departure of Carrell.
Clearly influenced by Matt Lauer’s exit from the Today show, The Morning Show looks like it’s lining up to ensure Apple makes a strong debut. Directed by Mimi Leder and written by Kerry Ehrin, the drama will be exclusively available on the Apple TV app with an Apple TV+ subscription.
