Whatever your feelings on the Percy Jackson movies from 2010 and 2013, there’s no denying that the Percy Jackson and the Olympians book series has always been a smash success. Which is why it makes perfect sense that Disney+ has ordered a new series based on the bestsellers.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians will be an epic adventure series based on, and closely aligned with, the award-winning book series by author Rick Riordan. Riordan, along with Jon Steinberg, will write the pilot with James Bobin directing and all three will serve as executive producers.
If you’re new to the world of Percy Jackson, it follows the titular character, a 12-year-old modern demigod who’s just coming to terms with his newfound supernatural powers when Zeus (yes, that Zeus) accuses him of stealing his master lightning bolt. To clear his name, Percy must traverse America to find it and restore order to Olympus.
20th Television President Karey Burke said, “Bringing Rick Riordan’s brilliant Percy Jackson books to Disney+ as a television series has been a mission for so many of us at this company as well as for Rick himself, and Jon, Dan, James and the excellent team they have assembled have proven to be the perfect collaborators.”
While we won’t know when we’ll get this new Percy Jackson series, casting is underway now.
