Awards season is well and truly underway, and not just for our live action movie stars. The 53rd Annie Awards recently announced their award finalists. Sony Pictures Animation and Netflix juggernaut KPop Demon Hunters and Pixar’s Elio lead the nominations with ten apiece out of twelve categories.
In addition to Elio and KPop Demon Hunters, Little Amelie, Bad Guys 2, and Zootopia 2 received nominations for Best Feature while A Magnificent Life, Arco, I’m Frankelda, Lost in Starlight, and Scarlet were nominated for Best Feature - Independent.
Other notable nominees in the television category include Asterix & Obelisk: The Big Fight, Win or Lose, Common Side Effects, Snoopy Presents: A Summer Musical, and Love, Death + Robots.
The Annie Awards are organized by ASIFA-Hollywood, the Southern California chapter of the Association Internationale du Film d’Animation. The awards take place on February 21 at Royce Hall on the UCLA campus.
