After previously announcing their plans to create an Ocean’s Eleven reboot with a female cast, Warner Bros has released names for the cast of the newly dubbed Ocean’s Eight.
Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Rihanna, Helena Bonham Carter, Mindy Kaling and Awkwafina have all signed on to the project which is slated to begin filming in October. Casting is still going on and so far we don’t know who will play who from the list of attached actors.
Ocean’s Eight is produced by Ocean’s Eleven director Steven Soderbergh and director Gary Ross wrote the script with Olivia Milch. Originally hitting theaters in 1960, Ocean’s Eleven was famously rebooted in 2001 and spawned two follow-ups that featured an all-star cast which include George Clooney and Brad Pitt.
As Bullock and Blanchett were the first to attach themselves to the film, it’s tempting to think they may serve as the two main characters in charge and with a plan. However until casting finishes, these are only speculations. Judging from the fun and witty atmosphere of 2001’s Ocean Eleven and the all-star cast (so far) announced, Ocean’s Eight is a film to keep your eye on.
