Hailed by critics and filmmakers alike, Green Room is one of those thrillers that you have to see to truly understand its brilliance. And while the film didn’t make quite the splash it should have in theaters, viewers will be fortunate enough to garner a chance to catch it when it hits Blu-Ray and DVD on July 12th.
The film follows Anton Yelchin’s Pat and his punk band as they travel from small town to small town, playing at hole-in-the-wall bars in hopes of garnering a fan base that would require some elite attention. But after an incident in their green room following a last-minute gig, the group finds themselves in a battle for their life.
Shot on an immensely small budget of just $85,000, Green Room proves that great filmmaking cannot be hindered by a project’s budget. Its surefire cult classic status will be cemented in the coming years as fans get a glimpse at the tight knit story that showcases a stellar performance from Patrick Stewart as the chilling, horrifying and downright ruthless skinhead bar owner who orders the group’s termination.
Featuring a making-of featurette and an audio commentary track with director Jeremy Saulnier, the film’s home video release won’t offer many bells and whistles. But a film like this simply doesn’t need it.
Green Room co-stars Imogen Poots, Alia Shawkat, Joe Cole, and Callum Turner and had its world premier at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival.
