Originally debuting at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival, Tessa Thompson’s latest film, Sylvie’s Love, is slated to premiere on Amazon Prime this December.
Thompson plays the titular Sylvie, aspiring to work in television in Summer 1957 New York. She helps out at her father’s record store during the day but things change when she meets Robert (Nnamdi Asomugha), a saxophonist trying to make it as a jazz musician who takes a part-time job at the record store. Although sparks fly, they end up going in different directions at the end of the summer, years passing before a chance at reunion.
Directed and written by Eugene Ashe, Sylvie’s Love combines romance and music into a sweeping story that covers years, a changing culture, and the true price of love. The film also stars Eva Longoria, Aja Naomi King, Wendi Mclendon-Covey, and Jemima Kirke.
Sylvie’s Love comes to Amazon Prime on December 25.
