There was a time when movies about spies and assassins focused on the drama and suspense of the occupation. However, as practical and special effects became more affordable and realistic, filmmakers decided that explosions and automatic weaponry were the most entertaining way to spice up the genre. Thankfully, Anton Corbijn knows better, and he’s taken the spy thriller back to its roots.

It’s not going to win any awards, or probably make a name for itself, but Devil was just what I wanted. Five random people go into an elevator which breaks down. Soon they realized that the devil may be among them. The story was stable, to the point, and entertaining.

Over the last few years, war has become a popular theme in motion cinema. In an effort to show the emotional side- effects of fighting, films have presented nearly every viewpoint, both tragic and heroic. Consequentially, when it was announced that Lionsgate was releasing Brothers, I didn't pay much attention - until I saw the trailer.

Ninja Assassin

James McTeigue

I would never considered myself a martial arts fan. In fact, I rarely venture into a theater to witness the genre, and when I do, it is purely for the sake of the fight sequences. So when I was heard about Ninja Assassin, I had my doubts. But seeing as James McTeigue, the guy who made V for Vendetta, was stepping back behind the camera, I couldn't resist at least a peak into his newest project - and I am lucky that I took the time because his film is anything but a martial arts protégé.

I have been looking forward to Where the Wild Things Are since I first saw the trailer a few months ago! The preview showcased an artful take on the classic childhood story, written and illustrated by Maurice Sendak. My research on the film began immediately: The movie would be directed by Spike Jonze, an eccentric writer/director/producer whose resume boasts some of the most bizarre and inventive movies/music videos ever to hit the screen. A frame-by-frame analysis of the trailer revealed that most, if not all, of the “wild things” would be making an appearance in the film.
