A Grimm Take on Recent Snow White Retellings

The story of Snow White has been retold many times since the original story was collected by the Grimm brothers in the early 1800s. The original is actually quite dark and involves a corset and poisoned comb in addition to the standard (and comparatively tame) poisoned apple. While the old versions of Snow White entail her being saved by a prince, recent retellings have shifted and made Snow White a more modern woman who’s fully capable of saving herself. Mostly.

The Muppets Are Heading Home

Up for an Oscar for Best Original Song at this coming Sunday's Academy Award Ceremony, Disney is riding the excitement right to retailers as it preps The Muppets for a home video release on March 20, 2012.

Beauty and the Beast 3D Trailer

This past fall Disney shocked the industry when it released The Lion King 3D to wide spread critical praise and box-office gold.  It wasn't surprising that after accumulating more thatn $90 million in theaters the studio announced an onslaught of classic titles that would be re-released over the next two years in the extra dimension.  Next on the list is one of my personal favorites - The Beauty Beast.

Ever since Chicago took home the Best Picture Oscar at the 2002 Academy Awards, studios have been scoping out Broadway to find their next big hit. In the process, Rent, Dreamgirls and Hairspray have all had their day on the big screen. However, none of these films has been able to recreate the excitement and box-office success that the studio has expected. Sure Hairspray was fun, and to many considered a summer blockbuster, but when award season came around it was practically ignored.
