At this point, Christopher Nolan can officially be called a genius. Over the last decade his films have consistently been both financially lucrative and genre defining. One could even mount a solid case for calling Nolan one of the greatest directors of our time. Inception is perhaps the best evidence for such an assertion. The talented cast, mind-blowing story, and stunning visuals all support the basic underpinnings of the plot: that it is possible to willfully enter the dreams of others and manipulate their subconscious.

For months I have witnessed a marketing blitz that showcased an elaborate cast, a renowned director and some exotic looking dance sequences and music. The movie is Nine, based off the Broadway play by the same name, and it isn't hurting from its many astonishing pre-release qualities: stacked cast, known story, addicting music and promise of sex and beauty. But for all the hype that surrounded the film, I have to admit that I sit here now a bit disappointed with the final result.

In the midst of the Great Depression, a gang of thieves and outlaws led by John Dillinger tore around the Midwest in a year-long spree of bank robberies and jail-breaks. After months of near apprehensions, the Federal Bureau of Investigation dedicated almost a third of its budget to catching the crafty criminals. At the tip of this spear was J. Edgar Hoover’s hand-picked special agent- Melvin Purvis.

Christopher Nolan’s Inception uses visual effects in remarkable, breathtaking form that is only enhanced by seeing it on an IMAX screen. Now, I don’t think I could watch it any other way.
