Interview: Aaron Sorkin: The Social Network

After years in the business, Aaron Sorkin has built a strong name for himself. Having penned such classics as A Few Good Men, The American President, and TV's 'The West Wing,' Sorkin is no stranger to unprecedented hype. Lately, things have gotten a little crazy-- Sorkin has decided to leave politics behind and tackle modern pop-culture with his newest film, The Social Network. I was extremely excited to get his reaction to all the buzz when I sat down with him last week.

Allie Grant: 'Weeds'

Over the last five years, Allie Grant has steadily been making a name for herself. Cast as Isabelle Hodes, Grant remained a guest star for the first two seasons of Showtime's hit comedy series 'Weeds.' But in season three, things began to look up, way up.

1956 was the first year that African Americans were admitted to the University of Texas at Austin as undergraduates. That very year a young, talented music student named Barbara left her small Baptist Bible Belt town of East Texas and entered the university. She majored in music, and was selected to play the lead in a romantic opera in 1957, opposite a white boy. As the news of her lead role spread, the Texas legislature advised the university president to remove her from the cast.

Clint Eastwood knows how to tell a story. Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon know how to portray a character. So, it makes me wonder why I was not overly impressed when the triad of cinema forces came together to create one of my most highly anticipated films of 2009, Invictus.

Back in November of 2000, when all eyes went to Florida and their voting process, everyone began to reconsider their stance on the motto that every vote counts. However, as shown in 2004, the mind boggling event that held the country in limbo for over a month seemed to have lost its flair as many decided not to vote for the next President. Now, as the 2008 election begins to come into focus, Kevin Costner and company look to remind everyone just how important the judicial system really is with their comedic film, Swing Vote.

Stuyvesant High School is no walk in the part; in fact, it is anything but. Accepting only 3% of the 25,000 students who take the entrance exam, the New York City high school is as competitive as it gets. But nothing can compare the students for the intense month of campaigning that takes place when the role of student body president is on the line. Challenging the seriousness and intensity of a Presidential election, the students at Stuyvesant do it all.

Just months before announcing his bid for the presidency, George W. Bush bought a ranch in the small town of Crawford, Texas. Taking to the down home, aw-shucks personality that helped charm/divide the nation, Bush took full advantage of his time in Crawford. In fact, combine the city with a few hanging chads and many would say that the city was a vital card played, possibly single handedly landing him in the White House.
