Picking Your Battles

I’ve never hidden my disdain for 3-D films. It’s a gimmick and almost never adds anything to the art of film. Guillermo del Toro, best known for his Hellboy series, said at this year’s Comic-Con that his new monster flick Pacific Rim would not be converted to 3-D. Statements like these make me jump for joy.

Disney Locks Up Whedon

As if the fact that the global monster The Avengers sits third on the all-time world box office list wasn’t enough to indicate that there would be a sequel, Disney has now confirmed it.  During the studio’s earnings call on Tuesday, Chairman and CEO Bob Iger officially announced that the semi-phenomenally powered Joss Whedon will be taking a seat in the director’s chair once again for the already highly anticipated The Avengers 2.

From Shadows to Body Glitter: The Evolution of the On-Screen Vampire

The lore around vampires is incredibly rich and dates all the way back to 18thcentury Europe. This rich tradition has made the vampire one of the most popular subjects in 20th and 21st century film. The vampire in film began as a creature of the shadows who preyed on the innocent and unsuspecting.

2D or not 2D

This may make me sound old, but I’ll risk it. Remember when you could go to the movies and there was just one version of the film?  Things have changed drastically since then – you can thank James Cameron and his Avatar, which single-handedly brought about the 3D revolution. While his film did look amazing in 3D, like fire from the gods, the technology would soon be abused.

12 Films to Look Out for in 2012

The Ball has dropped, the champagne has popped, and you’re now living in the future. The Mayans and Roland Emmerich have already predicted that this will be our last year, which is okay with me now that the Batman saga is ending.  But Batman isn’t alone.  Many highly anticipated films ever are opening this year, and I’m giving you my picks for the ones you absolutely cannot miss.

Premature Acclamation?

Before Ricky Gervais even had a chance to rib on the nominees for best supporting actor, the NY Film Critics Circle has already given out their film accolades for the year. Typically the Golden Globes open up the awards season, but the Circle just couldn’t wait and exploded all over the face of twitter.

Have you seen this Dumas movie?

Milla Jovovich has taken to the twitter stream to bash Summit for not properly marketing the newest adaptation of The Three Musketeers. She made the claim that they're riding high on their Twilight franchise and didn't want to invest the funds into her movie, which is conveniently directed by her husband Paul W.S. Anderson.

Fall TV Preview

There are quite a few new shows premiering this fall; some of the shows are good and some are just awful. Everyone has a hectic schedule, so finding time to sit down and watch a show you recorded, much less when it comes out is rare. So here is my guide to help you decide what is worth your time this fall and what isn't.

'Ringer' Opens Fall 2011 TV Slate

Buffy’s back!...Oh, wait…she’s not Buffy? Well fine, Sarah Michelle Gellar is making her glorious return to television in the CW’s new noir style fall series, ‘Ringer’. Gellar will be playing Bridget Cafferty, a recovering drug addict/stripper/prostitute. She will also be playing her identical twin sister, Siobhan Martin, a wealthy New York elite with plenty of her own secrets.

Marvel Brings Stories Full Circle

Comic book movies are not anything new; despite the craze of the past decade and studios buying up every property they can, they’ve been around since before Christopher Reeves made me believe a man could fly. The difference with recent comic book movies, in particular with Marvel properties, is that their narratives have been weaved together.
